πŸ’‘ Note: Two-Factor Authentication is only available to Trail EVO users.

What is Two-Factor Authentication?

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security to your Trail EVO account. Even if someone discovers your password, they won't be able to access your account without the second authentication method.

When you enable 2FA, you'll need two things to log in:

  • Your password

  • A verification code or security key

This keeps your account secure even if your password is compromised.

Available authentication methods

We offer three ways to set up 2FA:

  • Authenticator app – generates codes on your phone using apps like Google Authenticator, Authy, or Yubico Authenticator

  • Text message – receive verification codes via SMS to your mobile phone

  • Security key – use a physical FIDO2 or U2F device

You can use multiple authentication methods on your account if you prefer.

How to set up Two-Factor Authentication

Getting started

  1. On your main dashboard, go to the top right-hand corner where your username is displayed and select 'My Account'

  2. Select the 'Two-factor authentication' tab

  3. Click 'Set up your two-factor authentication'

  4. Choose which authentication method you'd like to use

You can set up more than one authentication method for added flexibility. Simply follow the setup steps for each method you'd like to add.

How do I find my dashboard?

If you've logged in directly to Access EVO, you'll be routed directly to your dashboard when you sign in.

If you've logged in via the 'Continue with Access' button on Trail:

  1. Select the Access button in the top right-hand corner (or at the bottom of the page on smaller devices)

  2. Select 'Access EVO' from the menu

  3. You'll be taken to your dashboard

Setting up a security key (FIDO2 or U2F)

  1. Give your authenticator a name

  2. Choose your authentication type (e.g. built-in or external)

  3. Follow the on-screen instructions

  4. Once verified, you'll see the authenticator listed under 'Your existing authenticators'

  5. You'll receive an email confirmation

Setting up an authenticator app

  1. Choose which authenticator app you'd like to use (such as Google Authenticator, Authy, or Yubico Authenticator)

  2. Install the app on your mobile phone if you haven't already

  3. Open the app and scan the QR code displayed on screen, or manually enter the code

  4. Enter the generated code into the verification field

  5. Click 'Verify'

  6. Once verified, you'll receive confirmation on screen and an email to your registered email address

Setting up text message authentication

  1. Select the correct country code (e.g. +44 for the UK)

  2. Enter your mobile number

  3. Click 'Send Code'

  4. You'll receive a text message from Access containing a verification code

  5. Enter the code into the verification field

  6. Once verified, you'll receive 10 backup codes that can be used to log in if your phone is stolen or damaged

  7. Print or copy these backup codes and save them somewhere secure – each code can only be used once, but you can generate new ones later

  8. Tick the checkbox that says 'I understand the use of backup codes'

  9. You'll receive an email to your login email address confirming that 2FA has been enabled

Important: Backup codes are only available for text message authentication.

Logging in with Two-Factor Authentication

Once you've set up 2FA:

  1. Enter your username and password as normal

  2. You'll be taken to a screen asking you to choose which authentication method you'd like to use if multiple methods have been set up, if a single method has been set up, this will be automatically chosen

  3. Select your preferred method and complete the verification

  4. You'll then be logged into your account

If you're using text message authentication and need to use a backup code instead, you can enter one of your saved backup codes at this stage.

Removing an authentication method

To remove an individual authentication method:

  1. Go to 'My Account' > 'Two-factor authentication'

  2. Find the authentication method you want to remove

  3. Select the option to remove it

Please note: If you remove an authentication method that you used to log in during your current session, you'll be signed out immediately.

Disabling Two-Factor Authentication completely

To turn off 2FA entirely:

  1. Go to 'My Account' > 'Two-factor authentication'

  2. Select 'Disable two-factor authentication'

Your verified authentication methods will still be saved but disabled. You can re-enable 2FA at any time, and your previous methods will still be valid.

Troubleshooting

I didn't receive my SMS verification code

If you don't receive your text message code, there's an option to request another code to be sent. Make sure you've entered the correct mobile number and country code.

I've lost access to all my authentication methods

If you've lost access to your phone, security key, or all authentication methods and cannot log in:

Our team will help you regain access to your account.

I've used all my backup codes

If you've used all your backup codes (SMS authentication only), you can generate new ones from the Two-factor authentication settings in your account once you're logged in.
